Intro to Food Preservation: Canning
Saturday, October 28th, from 11:00am-1:30pm
Beech Hill Farm
$10 per person
For generations, frugal New Englanders and homesteaders “put food by,” preserving the bounties of the farm’s harvest for the winter months. This capability to put food by—to enjoy eating delicious, locally grown and harvested foods all year—is a key component to sustainable living.
Join Stonington’s Chef Cheryl Wixson as she introduces you to food preservation techniques that
capture Maine foods at their optimum flavor and nutrition. In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the science of home canning and safe food practices while chopping fruits, vegetables, and herbs from Beech Hill Farm. After creating two beverages, they will can their products using either the pressure cooker process or boiling water bath technique.
The cost of the workshop is $10 per person, due the day of the workshop, and there are 20 spots
available.
