Evergreen Garden Club Annual Plant Sale
May 19 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Come Grow with Us!
The Evergreen Garden Club of Deer Isle will host their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 19, from 9 – 11 AM at the Deer Isle Town Hall. There will be a large selection of locally grown perennials from members’ gardens. New this year are organic vegetable seedlings like Goldman’s Italian American heirloom tomatoes, Bright Lights Swiss chard, Italian parsley, and Thai basil plus organic flower seedlings; hard-to-find nasturtiums, sunflowers, and small fruit trees. A raffle, including gift certificates for a garden tour with tea and popovers, landscape consulting, and gardening treasures is another new feature of the 2018 sale.
The Evergreen Garden Club, established in 1956, maintains gardens throughout Stonington and Deer Isle, including Mariner’s Memorial Park and plantings at the Island Community Center. In April, the club was awarded a Blue Hill Peninsula Community Food Grant to work in collaboration with interested island gardeners and other community members to establish community gardens at the Deer Isle Town Hall.
The objectives of the Evergreen Garden Club are to share the experience, expertise and love of gardening, protect our native trees and birds, and encourage home plantings. Club members are eager to help novice gardeners start growing!
Diane Walker, long-time gardener and president of the club will be passing the leadership baton to Kathie Keaton at the plant sale. Folks are invited to stop by on Saturday and thank Diane for her years of helping folks grow gardens.
